REPORT ON CONTINUED DENTAL EDUCATION (CDE) PROGRAMME “TURBOCHARGE RESEARCH WITH AI”
The Department of Public Health Dentistry, Azeezia College of Dental Sciences & Research, Kollam, successfully organized a Continued Dental Education (CDE) programme titled “TURBOCHARGE RESEARCH WITH AI” on 27th February 2026 at the 6th Floor, Academy block of the institution. The programme aimed to equip with postgraduate students and faculty members with practical knowledge and insights into the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in academic research and professional practice.
The inaugural ceremony commenced at 8:45 a.m. The programme was formally anchored by Dr.Kavya Anil, Intern, who gracefully guided the proceedings. The welcome address was delivered by Dr.Aarathy Vijayan, Professor and Head, Department of Public Health Dentistry. In her address, she warmly welcomed the distinguished resource faculty, dignitaries on the dais, faculty members, postgraduate students, and participants. She introduced the resource person for the day, Dr. Sharon Baisil was the resorce person. He is the Associate Professor (Community Medicine) and Assistant Medical Superintendent at MOSC Medical College, Kerala. He highlighted his remarkable contributions as a technologist and as the CEO of Kronotome, an AI-focused startup dedicated to empowering researchers, professionals, and educators. He also further acknowledged his extensive experience in training over 6,500 faculty members, clinicians, and postgraduate students across 24 countries.
The welcome speech was followed by an address by Dr.Rathy Raveendran, Principal, Azeezia College of Dental Sciences, who emphasized the growing importance of research competency and technological adaptability in the medical and dental fields. Subsequently, Dr.K Nandakumar, Dean, addressed the gathering and officially inaugurated the programme. He underscored the significance of embracing Artificial Intelligence as a transformative tool in healthcare research and education. Following the formal inauguration, a photo session was conducted with the resource faculty, Principal, Dean, Head of the Department, postgraduate students, and faculty members on the dais, marking the ceremonial commencement of the academic session. There were a total of 51 participants.
The session began at 9:30 a.m., led by Dr. Sharon Baisil. The session provided a comprehensive overview of various AI tools that can significantly enhance research productivity and efficiency. He elaborated on the practical applications of widely used AI platforms such as ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity in literature review, drafting research articles, generating ideas, and structuring theses. The speaker provided live demonstrations and practical insights into how these tools can be ethically and effectively utilized by postgraduate students and medical professionals. Special emphasis was given to maintaining academic integrity. Dr. Sharon explained the role of plagiarism detection and paraphrasing tools, including QuillBot AI, and discussed best practices for responsible AI usage in academic writing. His interactive approach enabled participants to understand both the advantages and limitations of AI-assisted research.
One of the most engaging segments of the session was the introduction to the AI music generation tool “Suno.” The speaker demonstrated how AI-generated music can be created using specific keywords, and he captivated the audience by generating a song based on the term “gum disease.” This creative demonstration effectively illustrated the versatility of AI tools beyond conventional academic applications, making the session both informative and enjoyable.
The session concluded with an interactive discussion, during which participants clarified their doubts and shared their perspectives on incorporating AI into their research practices. The programme formally ended with the Vote of Thanks delivered by Dr.AarathyVijayan, who expressed sincere gratitude to the resource faculty for his enlightening and practical session. He also extended thanks to the Principal, Dean, organizing committee, faculty members, postgraduate students, and all participants for their enthusiastic involvement. As a token of appreciation, a memento was presented to in recognition of his valuable contribution to the academic enrichment of the institution.
The CDE programme proved to be highly informative and impactful, equipping participants with contemporary tools and strategies to enhance research efficiency and academic excellence through the responsible use of Artificial Intelligence. The event marked a significant step toward integrating innovative technologies into dental education and research at Azeezia College of Dental Sciences & Research.
