REPORT OF NSS SPECIAL CAMP 2024-25
The Department of Public Health Dentistry, Azeezia College of Dental Sciences and Research and NSS unit [NSS/SFU/KLM/KUHS/3] organised a NSS special camp from 12/5/2025 to 15/5/2025 at BVET Life-skills Counselling Centre, Chathanoor, Kollam. Several activities were organised by the department of Public Health Dentistry from 12th May to 15th May.
On 12th May there was an introduction class with the students of NSS by Mr.John Lukose Director BVET life skill counselling centre, Chathanoor. An oral screening camp was conducted on 13th May which started at 10am with an inauguration by Rev. Jackson, Vicar of St.Thomas Marthoma Church, Chathanoor and Mr John Lukose Director BVET life-skills counselling centre.There was a total of 27 patients,out of which 25 were referred to Periodontics,2 cases of extraction to OMFS,16 cases of restoration to Conservative dentistry and 1orthodontic case.
On 14th May a seminar was conducted by Mr. John Lukose on the topic Mindfulness .The third year BDS students of Azeezia Dental College attended the seminar along with interns and faculty Dr.Naveen Jacob Varghese,(Senior Lecturer)Department of Public Health Dentistry.At the beginning all participants were asked to introduce themselves. This introductory interaction helped us to establish a comfortable environment.Following this ,the main session of the seminar has officially begun.The main highlight of the seminar was the discussion on personal growth, particularly the journey from‘Real Me’ to ‘Ideal Me’.Following the seminar a funny and engaging activity was conducted . It helped the participants reflect on learning while encouraging interaction and expression.At the end ,to provide a deeper understanding of the centres mission , a short video about BVET lifeskill counselling centre was shown .After that few students gave the feedback about the session. The session concluded by 1:30.
On 15th May a Field visit was organised to Mind Revival Rehabilitation Centre , Kallambalam. A oral screening camp was conducted for the inmates. The camp commenced at 10:00 a.m followed by oral screening and a total of 48 patients were screened. A total number of 4 orthodontic cases, 9 extraction cases, 11 restoration cases, 4 periodontal cases and 4 prosthodontic cases were examined. At the end an orientation class about “De- addiction and its treatment” was given by the counsellors Mr. Ebenzer and Mr. Sandeep, followed by an interactive session with Mr.Rufose John. The NSS special camp was very informative and useful to BVET students, parents and NSS volunteers.
