On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanthi on 2 nd Oct 2023, Department of Public Health Dentistry
,Azeezia College of Dental Sciences and Research, Kollam and NSS
unit(NSS/SFU/KLM/KUHS/3), conducted activities to commemorate the birth of our Father of
Nation. Gandhi Jayanthi is a national festival celebrated in India to mark the birth anniversary
of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi born on 2 nd Oct 1869. He is famously known as Mahatma.
Mahatma Gandhi followed the principles of Non-violence and peace through life. So this day
is also observed as International Day of Non-Violence.
The principal, Dr Radhakrishnan Nair, The vice principal Dr. Rathy Ravindran, Dr Aarathi
Vijayan, HOD, Department of Public Health Dentistry and Senior lectures Dr. Naveen and
Dr. Saira Siraj accompanied by third year and final year students and NSS volunteers of
Azeezia Dental College participated in the event.
The event started with the inauguration by the principal. The Vice principal Dr. Rathy
emphasized the ideals of Non-Violence, Swach bharat as well as irradicating the cast based
system. The objective of the event was to clean the college premises and plant saplings. The
staff and students cleaned the college area as a part of cleanliness drive. The unparalleled zeal
an enthusiasm of the participants was instrumental is helping to realize the dream of Mahatma
Gandhi. After cleaning programme, students and staffs together planted saplings like Thulsi,
Neem and other herbal plants in the college herbal garden. The event concluded around
12:30pm.
