REPORT OF SWATCHATA HI SEVA CAMPAIGN 2026
The Department of Public Health Dentistry, Azeezia College of Dental Sciences & Research, Kollam and NSS unit (NSS/SFU/KLM/KUHS/3) organised the Swachhata Hi Seva Campaign 2026 on 9th October 2026 in association with the NSS unit at GVHSS Valathungal, Myannad, from 10:00 am to 1:30 pm to commemorate Gandhi Jayanti. The programme aimed to promote oral health awareness, environmental cleanliness, and healthy hygiene practices among school students. An oral health awareness class was conducted to educate students about proper toothbrushing techniques, the importance of fluoride toothpaste, healthy dietary habits, prevention of dental caries, and the need for regular dental check-ups. The programme was conducted in connection with Gandhi Jayanti, celebrated on 2nd October every year to commemorate the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. Gandhi strongly advocated cleanliness, personal hygiene, sanitation, and social responsibility as essential elements of a healthy society.
Through the Swachhata Hi Seva Campaign, the participants were encouraged to follow his ideals by keeping their surroundings clean, disposing of waste responsibly, and contributing to a healthier community. The cleaning drive served as a practical demonstration of the principle that cleanliness is a collective responsibility and should be incorporated into everyday life.
An oral screening and health education camp was organised to assess the oral health status of the students and identify possible dental problems at an early stage. The screening focused on detecting common oral health conditions, including dental caries and gingival problems. Students were provided with appropriate oral hygiene instructions and guidance regarding the need for further dental consultation whenever necessary. The camp emphasised the importance of preventive dental care and regular oral health examinations. A cleaning drive was also organised on the school premises as part of the Swachhata Hi Seva Campaign. The participants actively engaged in collecting waste, removing litter, and cleaning the surrounding areas. The activity highlighted the importance of maintaining a clean and hygienic environment and encouraged students to avoid littering and practise proper waste disposal. The initiative also promoted teamwork, environmental awareness, and community participation.
An oral health awareness class was conducted for the students to educate them about the importance of maintaining good oral hygiene. The session covered proper toothbrushing techniques, the importance of brushing twice daily with fluoride toothpaste, regular tongue cleaning, and maintaining healthy dietary habits. Students were also informed about the harmful effects of excessive sugar consumption, the prevention of dental caries, and the importance of routine dental visits. The session aimed to encourage students to adopt healthy oral hygiene practices in their daily lives.
The Swachhata Hi Seva Campaign conducted by the Department of Public Health Dentistry, Azeezia College of Dental Sciences & Research, Kollam, at GVHSS Valathungal, Myannad, was a meaningful community outreach initiative. By combining oral health education, dental screening, and a cleaning drive, the programme addressed both individual and community health needs.
