REPORT ON OBSERVANCE ON INTERNATIONAL DAY AGAINST DRUG ABUSE AND ILLICIT TRAFFICKING
The Department of Public Health Dentistry, Azeezia College of Dental Sciences and Research and NSS unit (NSS/SFU/KLM/KUHS/3), organized various events as a part of the observance of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. A series of awareness programs aimed at educating and empowering the public, especially the youth, about the ill effects of Drug Abuse and the importance of a drug free society, was organized.
An essay writing competition and slogan competition was conducted on June 24, 2025 at Academy Block, Azeezia Medical College . The event showed enthusiastic participation from students. The competition aimed to encourage critical thinking and promote awareness on drug related issues among students. Ashika Anil from Azeezia Dental College secured the first prize in essay writing competition. FathimaFarzana.A.S from Azeezia College of Nursing bagged first prizee for the slogan competition.
On June 25, 2025, a thought provoking and informative awareness session was delivered by Dr.Anilkumar, Vimukthi Mission Coordinator, Kollam from Excise Department of Kerala. The talk covered topics such as psychological and physical impact of Drug Abuse, the role of government in prevention, and how individuals can contribute to building a drug- free community. The session was well received by students and faculty alike.
In an effort to take the message to the general public, a vibrant and impactful flash mob was performed on June 26, 2025 at Bishop Jerome Nagar, Kollam in association with IDA, WDC Branch Kollam, SN College NSS Unit, Kollam and Women’s College, Kollam . The performance creatively conveyed the dangers of Drug use and highlighted the importance of making healthy life choices.A vibrant street play was organized by representatives of IDA, Kollam which captured the attention of onlookers with its impactful message, emotional depth and strong social relevance. Adding to the cultural aspects of the program, a group song was presented by students of SN College, Kollam which emphasized unity and the importance of saying no to drugs, resonating deeply with the audience. An awareness exhibition was also held and featured a series of informative and visually engaging posters. To further enhance public awareness, informative brochures were also distributed among the crowd.
An awareness session was conducted by Dr.Nisha B Kurup, SSGP Nodal Faculty for the second year BDS students of Azeezia Dental College on June 26,2025. The session ended with anti-drug usage pledge. These events reflected the commitment of Department of Public Health Dentistry towards social responsibility and community engagement. The observance was successful in raising awareness and inspiring action against drug abuse, in line with global mission to achieve a drug-free world. We sincerely thank the Department of Public Health Dentistry for the dedicated efforts on organizing the series of impactful events as a part of International day against drug abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
