REPORT ON NATIONAL ORAL HYGIENE DAY 2026
The Department of public health dentistry Azeezia College Of Dental Science And Research in association with NSS Unit (NSS/SFU/KLM/KUHS/3) observed National Oral Hygiene Day on 1st August 2026 at the college on the theme “Make oral health a priority”.
The programme was organised with the objective of creating awareness about the importance of oral hygiene and encouraging preventive oral health care practices among the college community. The activities organised were smiley badge distribution to students and faculties, distribution of brochures regarding “Importance of oral health” to patients and Health education for dental assistants.
National oral hygiene day organised by Indian society of periodontology on 1st August every year.on purpose to spread awareness about the importance of maintaining good oral hygiene and preventing oral diseases.objective of the programme is to educate the public about the importance to promote preventive oral health care practice, to encourage regular dental checkups for early detection of oral diseases, to improve awareness regarding proper brushing and flossing techniques, to reduce the prevalence of dental caries and periodontal disease.
As a part of the programme smiley badges were distributed to students and faculty members to promote the message of oral health awareness. Educational brochures highlighting the importance of maintaining good oral hygiene,proper brushing techniques and preventative measures against dental caries were distributed to patients.A health education session was conducted for non teaching staffs by DR.Freeda ampootiSenior Lecturer Department of periodontology and oral implantology. The session focused on the importance of oral hygiene, prevention of periodontal disease and dental caries , benefits of regular dental checkup and healthy lifestyle practices for maintaining good oral health. Demonstration of the proper tooth brushing technique was also provided to ensure participants understood the proper method of brushing for effective plaque removal and maintenance of oral health.
To encourage the adoption of good oral hygiene practices ,dental hygiene kits containing essential oral care items were distributed to the participants at the end of the session.The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from students , faculty members and non teaching staffs. It successfully enhanced awareness regarding oral health, emphasised the importance of preventive dentistry and motivated the participants to adopt healthy oral hygiene practices for overall wellbeing.
