REPORT OF NATIONAL WOMEN AND FITNESS DAY
To commemorate National Women’s Health and Fitness on September 30th 2026, the Department of Public Health Dentistry, and NSS unit (NSS/SFU/KLM/KUHS) and Azeezia College of Dental Science and Research, organized a value added programme on the topic “Awareness of health and fitness among budding dentists”. National Women’s Health and Fitness Day is an annual event that focuses on women’s physical health, fitness and overall well-being. It encourages women to make healthy lifestyle choices and stay physically active.
The Value added programme was inaugurated by the Honorable Principal, Dr. R. Rathy, and the Respected Vice Principal, Dr. Devisree, who graced the occasion and marked the commencement of the event. Following the commencement of the program, The Head of the Department, Department of Public Health Dentistry, Dr. Aarathy Vijayan, delivered an insightful introduction to the event. The resource person for the program was Dr. Mithula Nair, Assistant Professor, Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology and (VG Mrs India 2022, TIGP Mrs India 2024 and Miss Universe Kerala 2025 — Show Director), who conducted the proceedings smoothly and engaged the students throughout the event. The session focused on creating awareness about healthy lifestyle practices, proper posture, physical well-being and adopting healthy habits in everyday life. The discussion on dental ergonomics was particularly relevant for the students, as developing proper working habits can help promote long-term occupational health and efficiency in clinical practice. She discussed the importance of maintaining a balanced diet, a proper sleep schedule and regular physical activity. She encouraged students to remain physically active through their daily activities and emphasized the importance of working all muscle groups, regular stretching, and avoiding prolonged inactivity. These habits were highlighted as essential for maintaining strength, flexibility, and overall fitness. The program concluded on a positive and motivating note which served as a valuable reminder that dental professionals must take care of their own health while preparing to care for the health of others.
The programme ended with the concluding address by Dr. Naveen Jacob Varghese, PHD, who brought the session to a meaningful close and reiterated the importance of incorporating healthy practices into daily life. The vote of thanks was delivered by Ms. Aljisha Kunjumon, Final year (Part A) student, expressing gratitude to the dignitaries, faculty members and students for their valuable participation.
