REPORT ON NATIONAL YOUTH WEEK

As a part of National youth week, Department of Public Health Dentistry in association with NSS/SFU/KLM/KUHS/3 conducted a webinar on Nutrition and Healthy Lifestyle on January 19th from 6:00 pm to 7:00pm through zoom platform with the objective to create awareness among students regaregarding the importance of Nutrition and Healthy Lifestyle. The resource person for the webinar was Mr. Rajesh Madhavan (Chairman of RGM Wellness, Fellowship in nutrition and environmental medicines, Nutrition therapy, Vitamin C and Chelation therapy)

The programme started with a welcome address by Dr. Naveen , Senior Lecturer, Department of Public Health Dentistry. The speaker delivered a session on the importance of healthy eating, the problems caused by lack of Nutrition etc.

He also highlighted the emergence of lifestyle diseases in the recent years, unscrupulous use of phone, lack of sleep, lack of balanced diet are the key factors leading to these disorders. In past most of the diseases were caused by infectious agents like bacteria, fungi etc. But in present scenario, lifestyle disorders have replaced them. Habits like smoking, consumption of alcohol, stress, drug addiction are the pre-disposing factors which cause the production of free radicals in the body which leads to the diseases. The speaker also advised on the methods to cope with stress. He emphasized on the importance of balanced diet, adequate sleep, need of physical exercises etc. Moreover he taught a self affirmation – ‘I am happy, I am healthy, I am wealthy, I am successful’ which when practised on a daily basis is said to increase our self esteem and reduce the stress.

The webinar concluded with doubt clearance session, where the participants cleared their doubts regarding sleep cycle disorders, eating habits etc. As a part of National youth week posters related to Nutrition and healthy lifestyle were also displayed at reception area of the college to create awareness among public.
