REPORT OF NSS DAY
As part of NSS Day, a collaborative programme was organized by the Department of Public Health Dentistry, NSS unit(NSS/SFU/KLM/KUHS/3) ,Azeezia Dental College in association with BVET Lifestyle Centre. The programme aimed to promote oral health awareness, provide dental screening, and encourage social interaction and community participation among the inmates of the centre.NSS Day is observed to commemorate the establishment of the National Service Scheme (NSS) and to highlight the importance of community service, social responsibility, and the development of a spirit of service among students. The day provides an opportunity for NSS volunteers to engage in activities that contribute to the health and well-being of the community.
As part of the programme, a dental screening camp was conducted by the team from Azeezia Dental College. The Programme was inaugurated by Mr.Johns Lukose (Psychologist) also a Speech was given by Dr.Naveen Jacob Varghese. After that oral screening was started. A total of 25 students/inmates were examined. Based on the findings, 21 students were referred to different specialty departments for further evaluation and treatment. Among them, 8 were referred to the Department of Periodontics, 2 to Orthodontics,10 to Conservative Dentistry and Endodontic (CDE), 4 to Prosthodontics, and 5 to Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery(OMFS).The screening helped in identifying oral health problems requiring further professional care. Following the dental screening, various cultural programmes were organized by BVET Lifestyle Counselling Centre. The programmes provided an opportunity for the inmates to showcase their talents and actively participate in the celebrations. The event created a joyful and engaging atmosphere and encouraged social interaction and self-expression.
An exhibition of art and craft materials prepared by the inmates was also organized as part of the programme. The exhibition displayed their creativity, skills, and artistic abilities.The hand made materials reflected their enthusiasm, patience, and talent, and the exhibition served as an encouraging platform for them to showcase their work. Overall, the NSS Day programme conducted jointly by Azeezia Dental College and BVET Lifestyle Centre was a meaningful and socially relevant initiative. The programme successfully combined oral health care,awareness, cultural activities, and appreciation of the creative talents of the inmates, thereby promoting the values of community service and social responsibility.
