REPORT OF WORLD AIDS DAY 2023
World AIDS day is observed on December 1st every year. This day brings together people from around the world to raise awareness about HIV/ AIDS and demonstrate international solidarity in the face of the pandemic. This year’s theme (2023) is ” Let Communities Lead “.
As part of the World AIDS day , the Department of Public Health Dentistry, Azeezia College of Dental Sciences and Research and NSS unit ( NSS/SFU/KLM/KUHS/ 3 ) conducted different programme including Red Ribbon Campaign, Pamphlet distribution, Awareness class and Oral Screening Camp.
The Red Ribbon Campaign was conducted at Azeezia Dental College. It was inaugurated by Principal Dr. R. Radhakrishnan Nair and Vice Principal Dr. R. Rathy by pinning the Red Ribbon to Interns. After that the Red Ribbons were distributed among all the staffs and interns of the departments of our college. Pamphlet containing awareness, cause and transmission of HIV was distributed among the patients and public and they were informed about the importance of the day and made aware about the transmission of HIV.
At 10: 00 am Dr. Naveen Jacob Varghese, Senior lecturer, Azeezia Dental College, Kollam, and a team of 9 interns conducted a camp at Mar Baselios Central School , Maruthompally, Kollam. The programme started by 10:15 am with an inauguration by Senior Principal, Mr Babu Varghese and other dignitaries. The inauguration speech was given by Dr Naveen Jacob Varghese. After the inauguration an awareness class on the topic “Importance of Oral Hygiene among Children” was given by Dr. Anjali ( Intern ) for the students of 7th standard. The school also conducted science exhibition which was organised by the school management.
The oral screening started at 10:30 am . A total of 138 students were present for the dental screening. The students were very cooperative and enthusiastic about the camp. During the dental screening each of the students were made aware of their dental status and about the different treatment possibilities that were available. All the screened students who needed treatment was given a privilege card and referred to Azeezia Dental College. Apart from the students, parents and staffs of the school also participated for the dental screening. The oral screening ended at 1: 30 pm. The programme was so successful and we got a positive feedback from the management. We reached back the college at 2pm.
