REPORT OF WORLD ENVIORNMENT DAY 2026
To commemorate World Environment Day, the Department of Public Health Dentistry, Azeezia Dental College, Meeyannoor, Kollam, in association with the NSS Unit (NSS/SFU/KLM/KUHS/3), organized certain activities. The program was conducted with the objective of creating environmental awareness and encouraging sustainable practices among students and staff. The theme was “Inspired by Nature: For Climate For, Our Future.”
World Environment Day was led by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), establishedin1972, to encourage worldwide awareness and action for environmental protection. It aims to raise awareness about environmental challenges such as pollution, climate change, biodiversity loss, and deforestation to promote sustainable practices that protect natural resources As we the fellow beings of nature, we can protect by contributing to planting trees and support local conservation efforts, reduce, reusing, and recycle waste, minimizing the use of single-use plastics, conserve water and energy, join environmental clean-up campaigns and educate others about environmental protection.
The events conducted in college commenced with a seminar titled “Learning Green Together: A Student-led Initiative.” The keynote speech was delivered by Dr. Aswathy Babu Raj (Intern), who emphasized the importance of environmental conservation, sustainable living, and the role of healthcare professionals in promoting eco-friendly practices. The session inspired students to actively participate in protecting nature and building a greener future. As a part of the activities, Part A final year students distributed eco-friendly handmade flower bouquets to all departments of the institution as a gesture of appreciation and to promote environmental consciousness. On 8th June 2026, a sapling planting programme was organized within the college campus. Saplings were planted by the Principal, Dr R Rathy. It contributes towards environmental protection and the creation of a greener campus. The World Environment Day programme was successfully conducted with enthusiastic participation and faculty members, students, and NSS volunteers. The activities reinforced the message of the day and motivated everyone to nurture nature for a better future.
