REPORT OF WORLD CANCER DAY 2025
World Cancer Day is observed annually on 4 th February every year. It is an opportunity to raise awareness and work together to prevent, detect and treat all types of cancer. The Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) leads World Cancer Day. The theme for 2025 was “United by Unique”. The theme was a reminder of the collective commitment to fight cancer. On behalf of World Cancer Day, Azeezia College of Dental Sciences Research , Department of Public Health Dentistry and QSSS (Quilon Social Service Society) conducted a week long activities. On 4 th February the department along with QSSS coordinated a campaign at QSSS Hall Kollam by focusing on various preventive measures to create awareness among the public and school students. The Chief Guest of the program was Dr.Dev Kiran, District Manager, National Health Mission (NHM). The awareness program was conducted in association with Community Radio Benziger. The speakers for the event were Dr.Aarathi Vijayan, Professor and HOD,Department of Public Health Dentistry,Azeezia College of Dental Sciences and Research,Dr.DevKiran, District Manager, National Health Mission and Dr.Sreeja,Gynecologist Victoria Hospital. On 5 th February a health education and oral screening camp was conducted at St. Joseph’s UPS School, Valiyakada. A total number of 159 participants were screened and 120 participants were referred to Azeezia Dental College for further treatment. An awareness class and
pamphlet on oral cancer was also conducted by the staff from QSSS Kollam. The camp concluded at 2.00pm.On 11 th and 12 th February an oral screening camp was conducted at TKM Arts and Science College. As part of the camp an awareness class was conducted by Dr.Jeenu Department of Orthodontics, Azeezia College of Dental Sciences and Research which empathized on basic oral hygiene measures and awareness of oral cancer. After the session an oral screening was conducted and a total number of 271 participants were screened and 227 participants were referred to Azeezia Dental College for further treatment. The camp
concluded at 2.00 pm.
