REPORT ON ANTI-RAGGING DAY PROGRAMME
Anti-Ragging Day, observed on August 12, marks the beginning of Anti-Ragging Week (12th–18th August) celebrated annually across educational institutions in India. The initiative aims to raise awareness about the harmful consequences of ragging and to promote a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment on campuses. The observance serves as a strong reminder that ragging is a punishable offense under law and highlights the importance of fostering kindness, mutual respect, and healthy interactions among students.
To mark this occasion, Azeezia Dental College, under the Department of Public Health Dentistry, organized a series of activities such as Seminar on Anti-Ragging Awareness, Slogan Writing Competition and Social Media Awareness Campaign. The events witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, faculty members contributing to the programmes overall success.
The seminar commenced at 1:45 PM at Azeezia Medical College Academy with an introductory speech by Krishna Ajay, Third-year student, who spoke about the significance of Anti-Ragging Day. After that a Welcome speech was delivered by Dr. Rathy R, Principal , Azeezia Dental College of Science and Research, who emphasized the importance of mutual respect and camaraderie among students. The chief guest was Mr. Andric Gromic, SHO of Kannanalloor Police Station, who highlighted the legal implications of ragging under UGC regulations, citing real-life case studies. Another speech was delivered by Mr. Jawahar Janardhanan, Chief Exuctive Officer of Azeezia Medical College, who discussed the psychological and emotional consequences of ragging on students. After that an Anti-Ragging Pledge was given by Dr. Rathy R, Principal of Azeezia Dental College of Science and Research. All participants took a formal pledge to uphold the dignity of their peers and contribute to a ragging-free campus environment. The program was concluded by a Vote of Thanks delivered by Aljisha, third-year student, expressing gratitude to all speakers, participants, and organizers.
A slogan writing competition was also conducted to encourage creative student expression against ragging. A total of eight students participated in both English and regional languages among which the winner was Dr. Nihala Muhammed Sakkeer, who was awarded a cash prize.
A social media awareness programme was conducted to broaden the outreach. Students created and shared short videos (reels) and messages promoting anti-ragging. This digital initiative successfully extended the campaign’s visibility beyond the college campus.
The Anti-Ragging Day Programme at Azeezia Dental College was highly impactful and successful in raising awareness about the serious implications of ragging. The activities reinforced the institution’s strong commitment to ensuring a safe, respectful, and supportive educational environment for all students.
