REPORT OF SWACHHATHA HI SEVA AND GANDHI JAYANTI 2024
Gandhi Jayanti is celebrated annually on October 2nd every year to honour the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhiji, the leader of India’s non violent independence movement against British rule. Gandhiji was born in the year 1869, and Gandhi is renowned as “Father of the Nation’ in India for his philosophy of “Ahimsa”and his role in advocating for truth,peace and social equality.
As a part of Gandhi Jayanti celebration, a programme called “SWACHATHA HI SEVA 2024” – is a campaign, inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visionary initiative, highlighted the importance of cleanliness. On 15th August 2014, speaking from the ramparts of the Red Fort, Hon’ble Prime Minister gave a clarion call for Swachhata to become a national priority and to achieve it through Jan Bhagidaari. Subsequently, the Swachh Bharat Mission was launched on 2nd October 2014 under a ‘Whole of Government’ approach, making sanitation ‘everyone’s business’. Thereafter, the whole world saw, as the nation came together and created what is known as the world’s largest Jan Andolan for Swachhata.
Hence as a part of this occasion Azeezia college of Dental Sciences and Research, Department of public health dentistry and NSS unit and St. John’s VHSS, Ummannoor conducted certain activities like Oral screening camp and cleaning drive at St. John’s VHSS, Ummannoor in the school premises. The camp started at 10.00am.The inaugural speech was given by NSS PO Mrs.Indhu. Dr. Naveen Jacob Varghese, Senior lecturer of Department of Public Health Dentistry inaugurated the event and gave a speech about dental awareness as well as about the camp details. Later on cleaning drive which included cleaning of the school premises in and around the school was conducted by organized efforts NSS volunteers of the school and Azeezia dental college. This was followed by oral screening camp where the students underwent oral screening and awareness related to oral health. Screening was done for 40 studentsas well as the faculties of the schoolwere given referral card and appointment for treatment in Azeezia dental college. The camp was successfully concluded with vote of thanks by Vice Principal of the school.
