REPORT ON WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY
As a part of World Environment Day, Department of Public Health Dentistry, NSS (NSS/SFU/KLM/KUHS/3) and Eco club conducted certain activities like planting of saplings on 5th June and sales and exhibition of Ecofriendly products made by BVET Life skills Counseling Centre, Chathanoor, Kollam on 7th June. The theme for World Environment Day 2024 is “land Restoration desertification and drought resilience, with the slogan, “Our Land, Our future.” With the help of this theme, we can emphasize the urgency to protect our environment and put pressure on the direction to restore land and combat desertification. Also building resilience against the drought is the main important thing due to the clean water availability issue. It is very crucial to put efforts in preserving biodiversity and natural habitats while restoring degraded ecosystems.
The Planting of saplings was organized on June 5th 2024 .The programme was inaugurated by Dr Aarathi Vijayan,HOD, Department of Public Health Dentistry and delivered a speech regarding the importance of environmental day .She also said “The value and purpose of these saplings is enormous; and their existence is vital for our survival. We must plant more saplings for a better tomorrow. We must find ways and means to make our planet Earth more clean and green. We all must make sincere effort to connect ourselves with the environment.”The saplings were brought by the students and are planted by the students posted in the department. The objective of this activity was to create and enhance awareness about the importance of tree plantations, how we can save our climate from pollution, control global warming, and make our Earth a better place to live in. Under the guidance of the staff, the young students enthusiastically participated in the activity. Despite getting their hands muddy, the students thoroughly enjoyed the planting process and creating an atmosphere of enthusiasm amongst all the students actively engaged in the activity. The hands-on experience allowed the students to develop a deep sense of environmental sensitivity and brought them closer to nature.
The Sales & Exhibition of Eco-friendly productswas conducted on June 7 th .The eco-friendly products were made by students of Bvet Life skills Counselling Centre, Chathannoor, Kollam. The exhibition was conducted at the entrance of the Azeezia Dental College. The exhibition was officially inaugurated by Dr Aarathi Vijayan (HOD, Department of Public Health Dentistry) .The programme was conducted from 10 am to 2 pm. Many staffs including both teaching and non teaching, students and Patients take part in the sale. The programme aimed to raise the people awareness for eco-friendly products. Dr Aarathi Vijayan told about the importance of using Eco-friendly products. Eco-friendly products are made using sustainable materials and production methods that minimize harm to the environment. They are often biodegradable or recyclable, reducing the amount of waste that ends up in landfills. By choosing eco-friendly products, we can play a crucial role in preserving our planet for future generations. The sale was done by the interns and they sell the artworks and handmade products made by Bvet students. The products included are wall hangings, pen stand, paintings, seed pens, etc. The interns explained to everyone about the products. About 5850/- amount was collected through the sale and the amount was handed to the Bvet students. All the students and faculties gave positive feedback about their efforts and products. The exhibition concluded at 2.30pm.
The program concluded with vote of thanks .World Environment Day is a reminder of our shared responsibility to protect and restore our planet. As we celebrate this important day in 2024, we should work on the theme of land restoration and work collectively to combat desertification and build drought resilience. By taking action today, we can ensure a sustainable and thriving environment for generations to come. We should not forget that every small step counts in the journey towards a greener, healthier Earth.The programme was overall very successful.
