REPORT OF TALK ON MENTAL HEALTH DAY
The World Federation of Mental health has declared October 10th, WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY”. This day emphasizes on the significance of spreading awareness and educating about mental health issues and to mobilizeefforts in support of mental health. This day initiated by Deputy Secretary General RichardTheater and it was first observed on October 10th,The theme of this year 2023 is “Mental Health is a universal human right”.
As a part of this day on October 14 th a session on Mental Health Awareness was conducted to First year BDS students by Dr Aarathi Vijayan, Reader and HOD, Department of Public Health Dentistry, Azeezia College of Dental Sciences and Research, where she elucidated on the importance of mental health. The Program started at 1 30pm at Lecture hall 1. During the session she gave a clear view about one’s problem can improve the state of mind even temporarily. She also stated that consulting a psychologist or even confidingin friends or family can save people from their intrusive thoughts. There is certain taboo regarding medication for mentalillness.Spreading awareness is necessary to eradicatesuch misconception.
She also pointed out how social media and mental health have become interlinked in recent time.
Social media can be compared to a double edged sword. One powerful aspect of socialmedia is that it can make socializing and reaching out for help easier for people who experience sound anxiety.It can also help to communicate and stay up to date with family and friends around the world. On the other hand, social media may promote negative experience about inadequacy about one’s life and appearance.
