REPORT ON WORLD ORAL HEALTH DAY 2025
World Oral Health Day is observed on 20th March to highlight the importance of good oral hygiene, preventive dental care and oral health awareness. Oral health is a key indicator of overall health, wellbeing and quality of life. The World Oral Health Day 2025 theme is “A Happy Mouth, A Happy Mind”. As a part of World Oral Health Day, Azeezia College of Dental Sciences and Research and Department of Public Health Dentistry and NSS unit (NSS/SFU/KLM/KUHS/3) organized a series of events that took place over the course of a week.
Oral hygiene awareness for palliative patients was conducted on 17/3/2025 at Pain and Palliative care clinic, Chinnakkada, Kollam under the guidance of Dr. Naveen Jacob Varghese, Assistant Professor, Department of Public Health Dentistry. The house surgeons visited the Pain and Palliative clinic and there were 4 patients and was given oral hygiene awareness messages. The awareness messages included topics like tooth brushing technique, flossing technique and use of mouthwash and oral hygiene measures.
Oral hygiene awareness talk and debate competition was done on 18/3/2025 for students of Fathima Matha College, Kollam. The oral hygiene awareness talk was given by Dr. Aarathi Vijayan, HOD, Department of Public Health Dentistry, It was followed by a debate competition among the students of Fathima Matha College about World Oral Health Day. A oral hygiene awareness talk and screening camp was also conducted for specially abled students of Vimala Hridaya Special School, Polayathode, Kollam on 19/3//2025. The oral screening camp started at 10 am and a total of 32 participants were screened and 30 patients were referred to Azeezia Dental College for further treatment.
A Mega dental camp at Eravipuram in association with St. John Baptist Church and QSSS (Quilon Social Service Society) was also conducted on 20/3/2025. The camp started at 10 am. A total number of 104 participants were screened which included school students and about 100 patients were referred to Azeezia Dental College for further treatment. The camp concluded at 1 pm.
“The Art Of Dentistry” competition – an exhibition open to all types of art using dental materials was conducted for undergraduates, Postgraduates and interns as part of World Oral Health Day from 15-03-25 to 19-03-25. There were about 9 participants and they utilised different kinds of dental materials such as plaster of Paris, wax, orthodontic wires, alginate etc. for their art work. The judges chose the winners based on their evaluation. Winners were announced on March 21st and prizes were distributed. As a part of World Oral Health Day, oral hygiene awareness brochures were distributed to the public on 21/3/2025. On 22/3/2025, an oral health education talk on “Prevention of Oral cancer” was also given to the public in association with “Radiosanthwanam” FM (a part of Pain and Palliative care centre, Kollam).
