REPORT OF INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES 2023
International Day of Persons with disabilities is observed on December 3rd every year. The day is about promoting the rights and well being of persons with disabilities at every level of society and development, and to raise awareness of the situation of persons with disabilities in all the aspects of political, social, economic and cultural life.
The theme of the IDPD 2023 is “United in action to rescue and achieve the sustainable development goal for, with and by persons with disabilities”.
As a part of the international day of persons with disabilities, the Department of Public Health Dentistry, Azeezia College of Dental Sciences and Research organized SPARSH2023, which includes Seminar, Exhibition and sales of Handicrafts in association with BVET Chathannoor, life skills counseling Centre for specially abled children.
SPARSH 2023 started with a seminar on the topic “intellectual disability”. The resource person was John C Lukose founder Director of BVET. The session started with the introduction of the resource person by Dr Naveen Jacob Varghese. The one hour session was very interesting and informative. He gave an idea about what is intellectual disability and also shared the story of the BVET and their training programs and achievements. He introduced one of his students, Mr Hariprasad and also shared successful stories of other talented students. Overall the session created awareness among the interns and students on how to treat these people. He concluded with “people of determination “quote by UAE president. The session concluded with vote of thanks by final year student Dayadi Devaraj.
After the seminar, exhibition and sales started at 10 am.The students of BVET presented their artworks and handmade products. The principal and vice principal inaugurated the exhibition and they made the first purchase. Later all the staffs, interns and students of our college visited and purchased many items. The products included are umbrella, soap, dishwash, paintings, toys, clocks, etc. The students explained to everyone about their products and they were very excited to communicate with all of us. They also shared their life experiences before joining the BVET and how they reached up-to this level.All the students and faculties give positive feedback about their efforts and products.The exhibition concluded at 2.30pm. They sang a song and Mr Shikhil Raj, Senior student of BVET made a speech thanking organizers. The program concluded with vote of thanks by Dr Aarathi Vijayan, HOD, Department of Public Health Dentistry.
